Bookbinding; Library Bound Books
The National Edition & Library Bindery Division of Brewer Cantelmo is responsible for all the bookbinding that takes place in our Manhattan factory. Aided by a quality antique oversewing machine, our craftsmen and women can bind your documents or periodicals into handsome, durable, long lasting library bound books. We are experienced with all types of content from century old magazines to medical journals, thesis binding, closing binders, and infinite others. Our customers include magazine publishers, hospitals, doctors, attorneys to name a few.
The oversewing technique that we use is significantly more durable than perfect binding and our pricing is quite competitive. (However, please note that oversewing is not the same as smythe stiching.) In addition to sewing your contents, we will custom make the covers that display and protect the pages. We typically use library buckram, an industry standard bookbinding cloth used for its strength and cleanability. Alternately, we can cover your bound book with any of the materials used on our other products as well.
In addition to selecting your cover material, we can stamp text and logos on the cover and/or spine using a variety of colors. Other services that our bookbinding department offer include custom indexing / tabs, gilded page edges, spine ridges (hubs), photocopying, collating, and thumb indexing. For your most treasured pages that need binding, we offer hand-sewn bound books which provides a truly special effect.
The options we provide are rare to find anywhere in the world and we do them all in house in midtown New York City. Please contact our knowledgeable staff to discuss the scope and timing of your bookbinding project. There is no minimum or maximum and our typical turnaround time is 2 weeks.
