PICTRAN Premium Ink Jet Paper
We are pleased to announce the official launch of PICTRAN premium ink jet paper in the US. As the sole distributor in New York, Brewer Cantelmo is proud to offer a brand new high end ink jet paper unlike any seen before. Made from washi, a material used for centuries in traditional Japanese papers, PICTRAN has a glass powder coating developed over 40 years of ink jet paper research.
There are 3 types of PICTRAN currently in stock: Kyokushi, Metal, Crystal
PICTRAN Kyokushi
Made from a durable Japanese fiber called washi, ""Kyokushi"" translates to bureau papers in English. This Japanese vellum is unbleached and is incredibly strong and durable. Washi is used for bills and bank notes in Japan due to the high quality and stability of the material; the pliancy and natural surface texture cannot be matched by other papers. The fiber does not have a grain and can be printed in either direction. The coating is applied to one side only. It has a low weight of 325g and a high tearing resistance, The unique glass powder coating on top of the paper is a transparent ink receiving layer instead of a white ink receiving layer in other ink jet papers. The white layers in other papers dilutes the ink colors while the PICTRAN does not distort colors. Kyokushi provides the maximum gamut color range for ink jet papers. There are no optical brighteners added to Kyokushi and therefore the paper color will not fade over time. The glass powder coating has a shine that resembles an oil painting. Currently available for sale in A3, A4, 14 x 11, 13 x 19, 17"", 24"", 44"" rolls (15 meters). A4 size samples are available.
PICTRAN Baryta
Similar to Kyokushi, the Baryta is also made from the traditional Japanese fiber called washi. The baryta coating is applied underneath the top glass powder coating. (as opposed to other ink jet papers which mix the baryta solution (BaSO4) with the top coating. The coating is applied to one side only. The separate Baryta layer receives ink and provides a stable layer for blacks and colors to show brilliantly. With an L value near 5, the blacks achievable in PICTRAN Baryta have yet to be matched by ink jet printing. There are no optical brighteners added to Kyokushi and therefore the paper color will not fade over time. Typically baryta is reserved for black & white printing in which the PICTRAN excels, but this paper can also be used with colors as the additional coating improves color ink jets as well. Available for sale starting September 1st, 2009. Samples available in A3, A4, 13 x 19.
PICTRAN Matte
Constructed from the same washi fiber as other PICTRAN papers, the matte paper prints without the extra shine like the Kyokushi or Baryta. There are no optical brighteners added to Kyokushi and therefore the paper color will not fade over time. Ink jet prints resemble water color paintings as opposed to an oil painting. The coating is applied to one side only. Available for sale starting October 1st, 2009. Samples available in A4.
PICTRAN Handmade Kyokushi
This paper is very similar to the Kyokushi except this washi paper is made by hand. Furthermore, the glass powder coating layer is applied by hand as well. This time intensive process produces beautiful paper ideal for ink jet printing. The coating is applied to one side only. In addition, with rough edges on all 4 sides, this paper is not recommended to be matted, but instead use a floating frame. Samples are not currently available, this product is currently available for sale by custom order only with a 1 month delivery time. Sizes are available up to 44 x 44.

PICTRAN films
PICTRAN Metal
Made of boPET film (used frequently in solar / marine applications) this film has 3 layers in which the ink is illuminated both from in front and behind. The back layer consists of a thin film of aluminum oxide particles that reflect light. The middle layer is a highly transparent boPET plastic and cover by the highly transparent and highly absorbent ink receiving layer. The three layers allow the ink colors to be reflected on the surface and by the mirrored bottom layer. This application of the PET film is unique for ink jet printing and the multiple layers gives images incredible depth and 3 dimensionality. The coating is applied to one side only. Currently available in A3, A4, 14 x 11 and 13 x 19. Samples are available in A4 for $5 for 2 sheets.
PICTRAN Crystal
PICTRAN Crystal is made from white polyester film. This film provides a perfect high gloss effect and can be illuminated from the front, back or both. It can be used for displays or as a contact negative for prints or files in a dark room. Similar to Metal, the Crystal film have 3 layers to reflect light from the top ink receiving layer and mirror light from the bottom layer. Light passes through this film easily and colors appear to jump off the page. The coating is applied to one side only. Currently available for sale in A3, A4, 14 x 11 and 13 x 19. Samples are available in A4 for $5 for 2 sheets.
